About Travis J Bruton
Travis J. Bruton is a dedicated public servant, municipal leader, and community advocate committed to building a stronger, more connected Glenn Heights. Originally from Peoria, Illinois, Travis earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Memphis and later completed a Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance.
Since moving to Glenn Heights in 2013, Travis has devoted himself to public service and community leadership. In 2017, he made history as the youngest person ever elected to the Glenn Heights City Council. In 2025, he was unanimously elected Mayor Pro Tem, a role that reflects the trust and confidence of his fellow council members and positions him to guide the city with vision and collaboration.
Travis has focused on initiatives that strengthen community connections, empower youth, and enhance transparency in local government. He founded the Glenn Heights Youth Advisory Council, giving young residents a voice in shaping city policies and programs. He also launched the Discover Glenn Heights Activity Book, the city’s first activity book for children, introducing them to local neighborhoods, parks, public safety departments, and civic pride through interactive learning.
Committed to open and accessible government, Travis created Before the Gavel, a forum where residents can ask questions and engage directly with the City Council before meetings. He also helped introduce a prescription drug discount program, providing tangible savings for families across the city.
Beyond local initiatives, Travis represents Glenn Heights on the national stage. He is the first elected official from the city to serve on the board of one of the “Big Seven” national government associations through the National League of Cities. Locally, he serves on the Red Oak Area Chamber of Commerce board and participates in Leadership Southwest, while previously contributing to the Red Oak ISD Superintendent’s Council to support regional education and student success.
Under his leadership, Glenn Heights has secured over $1 million in grant funding, earned national recognition through the Put Us on the Map contest, and implemented a city health metrics dashboard. In 2025, Travis was honored at the Texas Municipal League Annual Conference for his contributions during the Texas legislative session.
Travis remains committed to advancing Glenn Heights through thoughtful leadership, strong partnerships, and meaningful community engagement. As Mayor Pro Tem, he continues to put the residents of Glenn Heights first, ensuring the city thrives today and in the future.
